Oliver Gordon Cummings

HARRINGTON - Oliver Gordon Cummings died Apr. 5, 2017, at the Delaware Hospice Center.
Born on Tilghman Island, on Nov. 7, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter Bernard and Goldie Mae Haddaway Cummings.
He attended Tilghman Island Schools and joined the Navy, serving during WW II. He was a waterman in Tilghman Island. He married Virginia Cummings and they ran the Seascape and Chesapeake Hotel in Betterton, Md., and Skipjack in Stevensville, Md. They were married for 42 years. He lived for 20 some years in the Easton, Md., area and moved to Harrington later in life and worked up to the age of 87 at Oakcrest Furniture, Inc. He welcomed and offered his home and assistance to any one in need.
Gordon is survived by his daughters, Diana Thirion, of Naples, Fla., Dorothy Haddaway and Carol Sue Collins, of Seaford; granddaughter, Tina Nece, of Newport News, Va.; step-children, George R. Leager, of Sudlersville, Md. and Mary Layton, of Harrington. He had 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife, Virginia Cummings; sister, N. Joan Cummings; and brother, J. Bernard Cummings.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., on Apr. 10, 2017, at the Stevensville Cemetery, in Stevensville, Md. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Harrington Fire Company Ambulance Club, Attention: Ambulance Financial Secretary, 20 Clark Street, Harrington, DE 19952.
