Okey R. Brummett, 67

SMYRNA - Okey R. Brummett, of Smyrna, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. He was 67.

He was born in St. Paul, Va., son of the late William Jennings Brummett and Milda Starr Brummett.

Okey lived in Ashtabula, Ohio, before moving to Delaware in 1963.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He retired from Kraft Foods (formerly General Foods), Dover, in 1996, after 32 years of service.

After retiring, Okey and his wife built a vacation home in Auto, W.Va., where they enjoyed visiting with various family, friends, neighbors and their church family at Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He was a member of Full Gospel Church, Clayton, where he formerly served on the trustees and as a youth leader.

Okey also volunteered his time with the Pride committee as a coach with the Hartly/Marydel Little League, and with Special Olympics.

He loved serving the Lord and helping his church family and others. He also enjoyed the mountains, outdoors, wildlife and gardening.

His daughter, Sherri Lynn Hartman, passed away March 16, 2008. In addition to his daughter and his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, William Thomas Brummett.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Norma Brummett; a daughter, Sonja Mayhorn of Camden; a brother, Charles Brummett of Woodbridge, Va.; and four grandchildren, Matthew Yates, Mandi Marie Mayhorn, Justin Mayhorn and Casey Mayhorn, all of Camden.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Full Gospel Church, 1119 Clayton-Delaney Road, Clayton. Friends may call this evening from 7 to 9 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.

Burial with military honors will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.
