Norris E. 'Babe' Hammond, 75 HARRINGTON - Norris E. "Babe" Hammond, of Harrington, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at his daughter Nettie's home surrounded by his loving family. He was 75. He was born in Mastens Corner to the late William and Nettie Mae Hammond. Mr. Hammond retired after working over 40 years as a crane operator for Teal Construction. Before his retirement, he enjoyed growing a vegetable garden, and maintaining his flower beds. He also kept a few chickens for the eggs. He was a hard worker all of his life, and even after retirement, he kept himself busy. One way he kept busy was by mowing grass, something he thoroughly enjoyed doing. He loved to tease and tell jokes and he had an ornery streak that got him in trouble a time or two. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie M. Hammond; daughter, Linda Satterfield; and brother, Smith Hammond. He is survived by his daughters, Nettie Mae Jones of Greenwood, and Katherine Hammond of Centerville, Md.; brother, Billie Hammond of Mastens Corner; nine grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 4, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
