MILLINGTON, Md. - Norma "Jean" Wyatt Freeman of Millington, died on Friday, July 22, 2011, at her home, surrounded by her loving children. She was 82. Mrs. Freeman was born on Feb. 11, 1929, in Massey. She was the daughter of the late Norman and Martha Wyatt. She was a 1946 graduate of Millington High School. Mrs. Freeman was married to Mr. Harry Bates Freeman Sr. for 50 years. She worked for Acme Markets for 30 years until she retired in 1985. Mrs. Freeman was a dedicated wife and mother who loved spending time with her entire family. One of her greatest joys was hosting a family Christmas Eve dinner for many years. She was known by friends and family for her inspiring smile even through difficult illnesses since her retirement. She enjoyed playing pitch with friends, playing bingo and was a devoted Oriole's fan. She looked forward to going to church where she loved seeing her friends and listening to the choir. Mrs. Freeman was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 192. She is survived by her children, Gloria Wiest and her husband Gene from Millington, Harry B. "J.R" Freeman Jr. and his wife Margie from Centreville, Sandra Cannon and her husband Dan from Magnolia, Del., and James R. Freeman from Millington; nine grandchildren, Steve Freeman (Melissa), Rob Wiest (Darin), Tina Cannon (Steven), Tammy Black (Jimmy), Bill Cannon (Amy), Jesse Freeman (Amy), Renee Wolff (Joey), Ashley Horney (Travis) & Jennifer Klakring (Mike); 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Wallace; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, she also leaves behind special friends and caregivers who made it possible for her to stay in her home for many years. When that was no longer possible she spent her last years in the care of others outside the home. Her family is very grateful that her final days were spent with loving care in the home of Robin Carey where she was treated like a member of their family. She was preceded in death by her husband in May of 1997, and her sisters, Catherine Reynolds and Mildred Freeman. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Millington, where relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Millington. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 187, Millington, MD 21651 or the Millington Volunteer Fire Company, P. O. Box 255, Millington, MD 21651. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home P.A., 370 West Cypress Street Millington.
