MILFORD - Norma Hollis Sills, of Milford, died Friday, April 25, 2008, in Milford Center. She was 86.
Mrs. Sills was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Thaddeus W. and Sara (Harrington) Hollis.
She spent most of her life in Milford.
Mrs. Sills was a graduate of Milford High School, Class of 1939, and the University of Delaware, Class of April 1943, where she received a bachelor of science degree in home economics education.
She taught general science and biology in Milford School District for three years, and also taught three years of home economics at Glen Burnie (Md.) High School.
Mrs. Sills was a dedicated and longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Milford, enjoying teaching in the Sunday school and serving in various positions in the Women's Association.
She was a trustee of the church for six years and an elder serving on the Session for six years.
Mrs. Sills also assisted her husband, Dr. David N. Sills Jr., who passed away Aug. 6, 2007, with office record keeping during his 33 years of practice of general surgery at Milford Memorial Hospital.
Dr. and Mrs. Sills greatly enjoyed extensive travel in this country and abroad.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her young sister, Ida Ann Hollis Emory; and her older brother, Thaddeus W. Hollis Jr.
She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews, Donna Rayne and her husband Frank of Homosassa, Fla., Carole Downs of Acworth, Ga., Susan Miller and her husband Carroll of Seaford, Jo Ann Lord and her husband J.B. IV of Seaford, James Hollis and his wife Terry of Georgetown, Thomas Hollis and his wife Diane of Felton, Tina and Alicia Hollis of Milford, David Sills IV and his wife Denise of Bear, Andrew Sills and his wife Lisa of Roswell, Ga., Winifred Brantner and her husband Jim of Jonesboro, Tenn., and Nancy Ross and her husband Steven of Alpharetta, Ga.; one brother-in-law, Nelson Sills and his wife Nancy of Houston; and one sister-in-law, Winifred Leitheiser of Dover.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the First Presbyterian Church, 101 S. Walnut St., Milford.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 172, Milford, DE 19963.
