LAUREL - Nevins Keith Adkins, age 80, of Laurel, passed away at his home, on June 23, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. "Keith" was born in Lewistown, Pa., a son of the late Nevins W. and Mary O. Adkins. Mr. Adkins moved to Laurel in 1946 and was a graduate of the Laurel High School class of 1948. He and his father founded Adkins Welding Shop what is proudly known today as Adkins and Son Lawn and Garden in Laurel. He was previously a very active member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel where he served as president and teacher of the Friendship Class and Sunday School chairman. Keith served his country in the National Guard as the Battery Commander for the Laurel headquarters, achieving the rank of 1st LT. He was also a 60 year member of Odd Fellows Charity Lodge #27 Laurel where he was past Noble Grand and served as Deputy Grand Instructor as well as a member of Sussex Encampment #4. Mr. Adkins is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Helen West Adkins; their son, Gregory Adkins and his wife Donna of Laurel; and a grandson, Brock Adkins of Federalsburg and his fiancé Rachel States of Seaford. A Funeral Service and Odd Fellows Service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church 200 W. Market Street Laurel, DE 19956 on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at 3 p.m., friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. K. Wayne Grier will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel. Contributions can be made in Mr. Adkins memory to the Friendship Class of Centenary UM Church 200 W.
