HARRINGTON - Nettie Evelyn Welch Goodson-Huckaby, of Orange Park, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Born in Harrington, Del. in 1922, she was the daughter of Mildred Wix Welch and Willis Carroll Welch. She graduated from Harrington High School in 1940 and grew up in the Whites Church area. "Evelyn" was a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She worked at the Orange Park Branch of the U.S. Post Office for 22 years. She was a member of Emmaus Community and United Methodist Women. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Virgil "Huck" Huckaby; children, William C. Goodson, Jr. (Cherry), Jean Goodson (Jeff Parks), Nita Goodson (Thomas McQueen); five grandchildren, Chad Goodson (Jessica), Robert Kennedy (Lynette), Matthew Kennedy (Tamara), Megan Hanson (Joshua), Eva Fathali; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Welch, Edward Welch and sister, Joan Viggiani (Tony) and Charlotte Elliot of Orange Park, Fla., who was like a daughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Carroll Welch; husband, William Carl Goodson; four brothers, W. Carroll Welch, Jr., Bill Welch, Louis Welch and David Welch; two sisters, Lillian Boone, Pauline Gartner and daughter, Carol Fathali. Funeral services for Mrs. Huckaby will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Orange Park United Methodist Church, 2051 Park Avenue, Orange Park, Fla. with Rev. Pearl Boles officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers Evelyn requested donations be made to Orange Park United Methodist Church Music Department or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
