Zaragoza Fernandez DOVER - Nelly Fernandez, 86, of Dover, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Feb. 21, after a long bout with illness. Nelly was born to Catalina and Aureo Zaragoza of Natividad, Pangasinan, Philippines. She attended St. Scholastica College and the University of Santo Tomas in Manila where she earned her BS in Education. She was a teacher of Science and Home Economics. In 1969 she and her family moved to Dover where she has resided since. She worked for many years in multiple positions within Drs. Zaragoza and Maximo's medical practice. She and her husband, Pete, were active members of the Dover Dance Club, Modern Maturity Center, and promoters of the Alliance of The Two Hearts. She and her husband have been long time devoted parishioners of Holy Cross Church. Nelly cherished the time spent with her family and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Robert. She is survived by Pete Fernandez, her loving husband of 60 years; son, Edgar, and his wife Teresa, of Salisbury, Md.; son, Rick, of Zurich, Switzerland; daughter, Vicky, and son-in-law, Dr. Anthony Yaholkovsky, of Rocklin, Calif.; and daughter in law, Mildred Fernandez of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; grandchildren, Eric, Marc, Jourden, Andrei, Natasha, Merissa and Ryan; and her brother, Dr. Ralph Zaragoza, and his wife, Claire, of Wyoming. A visitation will be held at The Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover, on Friday, Feb. 24, from 7 until 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. Donations in Nelly's memory may be made to Oblate Apostles of the Two Hearts, 749 Bison Road, Dover, DE 19904.
