POCOMOKE CITY, Md. - Nathaniel John "Nat" Dean, a lifelong resident of Seaford, Del., died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after an approximate yearlong stay at Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke City. He was 84.
Born in Seaford on Oct. 10, 1923, he was the last surviving child of Elisha Nathaniel and Eva Fluharty Dean.
Mr. Dean was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He retired from the U.A. of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the U.S. and Canada with more than 50 years membership.
Mr. Dean was also a member of American Legion Post 6 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Virgil Wilson Post 4961 in Seaford.
In addition to his parents and sisters, he was preceded in death by one son, John E. Dean; one step-grandson, David Bragg; and one great-grandson, Dean Franklin Caudill.
He is survived by one son, Michael A. Dean and his wife Darlene of Pocomoke City; a daughter-in-law, Jane Dean of Seaford; four grandchildren, Patti Caudill, Michelle Dean, Corey Dean and Gina Dean; one step-grandson, Paul Davis; one great-grandson, Jeremy Dean Caudill; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and many devoted friends, who enabled him to stay at home in Seaford for several years before eventually entering the nursing facility.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Holloway Funeral Home, 103 Linden Ave., Pocomoke City, and a funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, in Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford.
