MIDDLETOWN - Nancy Evelyn Emerson of Middletown passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, in her home in Sharondale after a long illness. She was 68.

Mrs. Emerson was born Dec. 29, 1938, in Smyrna, daughter of the late Edward H. and Ida E. (Smith) Everett.

She attended Smyrna High School, and graduated from James H. Groves High School, Middletown in 1985.

She enjoyed practical jokes, reading romance novels, cooking big family meals, chatting with friends and family and generally lifting the spirits of those she met. She also enjoyed decorating and always had a new redecorating or remodeling plan going on.

Mrs. Emerson was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who delighted in creating wonderful gift baskets for family and friends with a terrific knack for finding the perfect contents for the recipient.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth Robinson and Marie Moore; and her brother, Wilson Everett.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Earl L. Emerson Jr.; two daughters, Darlene K. Hamby of New Castle and Terri L. Emerson of Middletown; a son, Russell D. Emerson of Newark; four grandchildren, Jerry Hamby, Jason Hamby, Brandon Hamby and Matthew Emerson; three great-grandchildren; and a brother and a sister-in-law, John R. and Ann Everett of Jacksonville, N.C.

Graveside services were private Feb. 27 in Townsend Cemetery.

Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
