Myrtle E. Hitchens

Myrtle E. Hitchens, 90 OCEAN VIEW - Myrtle E. Hitchens, age 90, of Ocean View, died on Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was born in Williamsville, daughter of the late Archie Frank Savage and Gretchen Wainwright Savage. She worked for "Jake" Hocker before it was G&E. She co-owned and operated Myrtle's Upholstery with her daughter-in-law Ellen for 26 years. She attended the Millville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Norman J. Hitchens in 1981; a son, Charlie "Buck" Hitchens and daughter-in-law June W. Hitchens. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, James F. Savage, A. Frank Savage, Ormil "Doc" Savage, and Edward Savage; three sisters, Viola Clark, Hilda Marvel, and Virginia Lockmiller. She is survived by two sons, Ralph J. Hitchens and his wife Ellen, Rick A. Hitchens and his wife Laura; and a daughter, Brenda A. Taylor. She is also survived by two brother-in-laws, Harry Timmons, and Elwood Marvel; and a sister-in-law, Mary Savage; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, where friends and family may call after noon. Interment will follow at St. George's Cemetery in Clarksville. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Myrtle's name to the Millville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1179, Millville, DE 19967; or the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
