CECILTON, Md. - Miriam M. Burris, of Cecilton, died Monday, March 24, 2008, in Union Hospital, Elkton. She was 84.
Mrs. Burris was born on June 26, 1923, and raised in Earleville, daughter of the late Joseph C. and Helen Husfelt Matthews.
For several years she lived in Norristown, Pa., working for Wildman Manufacturing Co., from 1941 to 1947.
She moved back to Cecilton where she raised her family and also worked as a switchboard operator for C&P Telephone Co., and from 1963 to 1985 as credit manager for Union Hospital, retiring in 1985 after 22 years of service.
Mrs. Burris was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cecilton.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, James E. Burris, in 1988.
Mrs. Burris is survived by her two sons, the Rev. Joseph G. Burris and his wife Patricia of Cecilton, and J. Alan Burris and his wife Jaylene of Westminster; and four grandchildren, Erin B. Galloway and her husband Brent, Ryan L. Burris, Katherine E. Burris and Christopher A. Burris.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Zion United Methodist Church, 168 W. Main St., Cecilton, where friends may call one hour prior.
Burial in Zion Cemetery, Cecilton.
The family suggests contributions to Zion United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 326, Cecilton, MD 21913.
