Mildred Helen Howard, 97

LEWES - Mildred Helen Howard of Lewes passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 97.

Mrs. Howard was born Nov. 10, 1908.

She graduated from Laurel High School in 1925. She then entered two years of nursing training at Wilmington General Hospital.

Mrs. Howard retired from her propane gas business after 25 years, which she owned jointly with her husband, Walter. She then became a caregiver at the Lewes Convalescent Center.

She retired to Clearwater, Fla., and then returned to Lewes in 1998, where she continued to pursue her greatest joy in life, taking care of her family and friends.

Mrs. Howard was a member of the Unity Chapter 16 O.E.S. and Bethel United Methodist Church, both of Lewes.

She is survived by two sons, Walter S. Howard Jr. of McDaniel, Md., and Charles H. Howard Sr. of Lewes; four grandsons, Walter S. "Sam" Howard III of Virginia, Charles H. "Chuck" Howard Jr. of Lewes, Glenn T. Howard and his wife, Lisa, of Milton, and Blake A. Howard of Orlando, Fla.; three granddaughters, Sandra L. Howard of Mineral, Va., Cynthia H. Bryan of Sheridan, Wyo., and Karla H. Johnson and her husband, Joe, of Lewes; and nine great-grandchildren, Walter S. "Chip" Howard IV of Virginia Beach, Katherine "Katie" Howard of Chesapeake, Va., Michael A. Britts of LaVergne, Tenn., Laura Jane Britts of Mineral, Stephen Howard Britts of Orlando, Tyler L. Bryan of Lewes, Jordan W. Bryan of Lewes, Allan C. Howard of Milton and Ryann E. Howard of Milton.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, Del. 9, west of Georgetown. Pastor Mark Magee will officiate.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Lewes Church of Christ Building Fund for the Point, 14904 Coastal Highway, Milton, DE 19968.
