DOVER - Melissa Dawn Wright, of Dover, left this Earth on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at home, to take up residence in Heaven with Christ Jesus. She is now rejoicing and smiling in the presence of God. She was 32.
Melissa began her Earthly life on July 2, 1975, in Dover, as the third daughter born to retired Master Sgt. John and JoAnn Wright.
Melissa was known as the "cheerful-joy" of the family.
She matriculated through the Capital School District and graduated from Dover High School in 1993; she also attended Delaware State University and Delaware Technical & Community College.
Melissa began preaching at the early age of 10, but answered the call of God at 19.
She served the first 18 years of her life as a member of Bibleway Temple Church of God in Christ, where her singing, musical and preaching gifts emerged and began to flourish as a choir member, band member and evangelist-missionary in training.
Melissa was officially licensed as a minister of the Gospel by Oasis of Refreshing Ministries, where she was most recently a member, through Kingdom Covenant Fellowship Ministries in 1999. Subsequently, Melissa began traveling the Eastern Seaboard as an evangelist, preaching and leading worship at various churches, Christian conferences and youth events.
Melissa had a dream to take the Gospel of the Kingdom of God outside the four walls of the church. She founded a cell-church Bible study which focused on the foundations of the New Testament Church.
Melissa was host of the "Need for His Presence" radio broadcast on 1600 AM for two years, which focused on transitioning believers from the world's system of thinking to the Kingdom of Heaven way of life.
She also served on the board of directors for The Virtuous Woman Ministries.
Melissa's preaching was featured on Remnant Sounds' release of "Chelle–Out of the Wilderness" musical recording in 2003 on the "Out of the Wilderness" and "Don't Cry" soundtracks. Melissa musically contributed to Remnant Sounds' release of "Michelle Danette–Night Watch" musical recording in 2007 as a keyboardist on the "At Rest" sound track.
She excelled as an entrepreneur with Melaleuca International, and was licensed commercial driver and motivational director to Howard High School's girls' basketball teams prior to her departure.
Melissa's memory and legacy will be carried on most dearly by her loving daughter, Dawnyea Daniels of Wilmington; parents, John and JoAnn Wright of Dover; maternal grandmother, Melvina Browne of Dover; two sisters, Joi Smith and Michelle Wright, both of Dover; brother-in-law, Darren Smith; nephews, JaKeem Wright of Dover and Darrell Smith of Maryland; niece, JaQuay Smith of Dover; godparents, Elizabeth Price and Elders Jack and Rosemary Wallace; godsisters, Renee Ashe of Middletown, Kattina Young of Wilmington and Penny Watson of Washington; godbrothers, Virgil Harris and Richard Moses Jr., both of North Carolina; uncles, aunts, great-uncles, great-aunts and cousins; and two dear friends, Keisha Travis and Audrey Stanford.
A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover.
A celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday in Crossroad Christian Church, 4867 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
