HARRINGTON - Maxine E. Klapp of Harrington, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was 77.

She was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Harrington, daughter of the late Leroy and Margaret (Dean) Cain.

Maxine worked as a waitress for many years before retiring to become a homemaker.

She was a member of the Veterans Employees Association of the Pennsylvania Railroad Inc. She attended Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington and valued being a member of the Ladies' Bible Study Group.

Maxine enjoyed traveling with her husband, for many years taking their grandchildren on trips across the country. She especially enjoyed the beach spending many summers at Pot-Nets community near Millsboro, and the Pennsylvania Railroad Lodge, Rehoboth Beach. Maxine collected miniature lighthouses and enjoyed visiting historic lighthouses on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and shopping, watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren compete in sports activities and also babysitting her great grandson Tayg. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She helped many of her friends by driving them to doctor's appointments because she was a good driver and they enjoyed her company.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her infant son, Robert Allen Klapp; an infant great-grandson, Jaeger Wayne Murray; five brothers, Harold Cain, Lewis Cain, William Cain, Leroy Cain Jr., and James Cain; and three sisters, Elizabeth Reed, Louise Reed and Irene Fry.

Maxine is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Allen Klapp of Harrington; two daughters, Carol Fry and her husband Barry of Milford and Cheryl Welch and her husband Edward of Harrington; four grandchildren, Renee Fry "Nay" Speicher and companion Bill McCracken of Milford, Lisa Fry Murray and her husband Shawn of Middletown, Dr. Tamara Welch and companion Dr. Josh Lloyd of Media, Pa., and Ryan Welch of Harrington; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley Rae Speicher of Milford and Hunter Tayg Murray of Middletown; a sister-in-law, Lea Matthews of Pocomoke, Md.; and a brother-in-law, Bruce Klapp of Lake Havasu, Ariz.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Calvary Wesleyan Church, 240 Delaware Ave., Harrington, DE 19952; or the Veteran Employees Association of the Pennsylvania Railroad Inc., c/o Ruth Matthews, 116 Broad Creek Road, Laurel, DE 19956.
