Matthew James 'Matt' Faulkner, 2 MILFORD - Matthew James "Matt" Faulkner, of Milford, died Friday, August 1, 2008, in A.I. DuPont Hospital. He was 2. Born April 3, 2006 in Dover, the son of Shannon and Chris Faulkner. Matt was diagnosed with Leukemia in Oct. of 2006. In April of this year, he had his first bone marrow transplant and was scheduled to have a second later this month. Matt received several rounds of chemotherapy and for nearly two years fought a courageous battle. He endured many ups and downs fighting infections, dealing with side effects of chemo, but through it all, he still could be found talking, singing, and playing like any normal toddler. Although he spent much of his time at A.I. DuPont, Matt enjoyed coming home and playing with his brothers and sisters. At the hospital he made lasting impressions on all the staff there. He enjoyed playing tricks on his nurses, and playing with the other children there. In the Fall of 2007, Matt was picked as the downstate honored hero for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk. The family wishes to thank everyone for all the spiritual, emotional, and financial support, and especially for all the prayers for Matt's recovery. Although healing was not meant to be here on earth, God gave Matthew the ultimate healing by calling him home, and being one of his special angels. Special thanks are given to all the nurses and doctors at A.I. DuPont, they are truly Gods special helpers. Matt was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Donald Jones. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brothers, Chase D. and Jakob L. Faulkner; sisters, Taylor J. and Autumn K. Faulkner; maternal grandmother, Joy Eisenhower of Smyrna; paternal grandparents, Donna Anthony of Farmington and George Faulkner of Harrington, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Friends may visit Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood. Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Care Search.org or the Bone Marrow Unit Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children, 1600 Rockland Rd., P.O. Box 269, Wilmington, DE 19899.
