Mary T. Tucker, 82

HARRINGTON - Mary T. Tucker, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, in her home. She was 82. Mrs. Tucker was born in Harrington, the daughter of the late Charles R. and Elsie (Sharp) Tatman. She worked as a ward clerk at Milford Memorial Hospital for 15 years, before retiring in 1971. Mary was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a 60 year member of the CKRT Unit 7, Harrington. She was also very active on the state level, where she served the Auxiliary Department of Delaware as recording secretary for over 30 years, was involved in Girls State for over 25 years, as well as the Teen Court. She also served as Chairman of several of the state's committees, as well as served as Department President in 1960. Because of her work with Girls State, Wesley College established a four year scholarship in Mary's name to be given each year to a deserving girl who has attended Girls State. Mary was also an active member of the Harrington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for 51 years, where she had served as President and Secretary. Two weeks ago, Mary was inducted into the Delaware Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary Hall of Fame at the Delaware Fireman's Conference in recognition to her service to the Harrington Community. She also was a member of The Merrymakers, a home demonstration club, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher. In her spare time, she and her late husband Harry also enjoyed spending time fishing off of Big Stone Beach. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Tucker in 1996. She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie T. Amoreno and her husband Mickey of Chesapeake, Va.; two grandchildren, Mike Amoreno and his wife Rayna, and Sandy Weber and her husband Steve; four great-grandchildren, Tucker Harrell, Genny Weber, Ruth Amoreno and Andrew Amoreno; and a cousin, Clara Streett and her husband Allen, of Newark. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church, 65 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford - Harrington Highway, Harrington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the CKRT American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, c/o CKRT Post 7, Unit 7, 17448 S. Dupont Hwy., Harrington, DE 19952. Arrangements by McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington.
