Mary Louise Monroe

GREENSBORO, Md. - Mary Louise Monroe, 88, of Greensboro, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, in Lewes. She was born June 28, 1923, in North Canton, Ohio, and was the eldest daughter of the late John Albert McCreary and Bertha Mae McCreary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Abernethy Monroe in 1981; youngest daughter, Mary Beth Shufelt in 1999; grandson, Keith Glanding in 1995; two younger sisters, Edna Mae Zierl, and Anna Pearl Allen. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1941, and Goldy Beacon College the next year. She worked for a brief time for our government in Washington, DC, prior to WWII. Mary retired from International Playtex in Dover, in 1983 after 36 years of service. She is survived by three children, Bonnie Miller, Cora Bush, and Clay Monroe Jr.; eight grandchildren, Garey Jump, Tammy Russum, Robin Russum, James Layton, Brooke Lowe, Burt Miller, Kate Varell, and Charles Walker Jr.; and ten great-grandchildren, Ashley Jump, Tyler Jump, Hailee Russum, Courtney Russum, Andrew Layton, Darren Russum, Morgan Lowe, Gregory Varell, Grady Varell, and Benjamin Miller. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, in the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home Greensboro, Md. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m., one hour prior to the service, with interment following in the Greensboro Cemetery.
