Mary Gardner Truitt, 72

DOVER - Mary Gardner Truitt of Dover died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, in Silver Lake Center, surrounded by family members. She was 72.

Mrs. Truitt was born Sept. 7, 1935, in Warsaw, N.Y., to the late Orville Gardner and Elizabeth (Cluney) Gardner.

She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover.

Mrs. Truitt was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, the former Dover City Councilman William P. Truitt, on Feb. 19, 2007; and her brother, James Gardner.

She is survived by her son, W. Gregory Truitt and his wife Linda of Hockessin; two brothers, Paul Gardner of Warsaw and Fred Gardner and his wife Shirley of Warrenton, Va.; her sister, Nora Warrington and her husband Ret of Long Point; two grandchildren, Paige and Campbell Truitt, both of Hockessin; a brother-in-law, John P. Truitt of Cumberland, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Doris Torbert and her husband Bill of Dover and Cynthia Gardner of Long Point; many nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Kay Peer.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
