Mary Elizabeth Louise Riley Hill

LEWES - Mary Elizabeth Louise Riley Hill (known as Lib), of Lewes, was born on July 30, 1929, to the late Ida Mae Riley Carter. She departed this life at Johns Hopkins Hospital, surrounded by her loving family members after a lengthy illness on Aug. 24, 2011. Elizabeth received her early education at Lewes Junior High School, Lewes. She later attended Southern High School in Philadelphia. In 1958, at the age of 28, Elizabeth met and married Emory L. Hill of Quitman, Ga., (who at that time) recently moved to Lewes. In total, Elizabeth has lived in Lewes for more than 75 years. Elizabeth worked at Sport Kraft- Dressco factory in Lewes, for 26 years. After its closing, she worked as a domestic in Lewes, and local surrounding areas. In her later years she became employed at the former Lewes Convalescent Center as a dietary aide. Elizabeth was a member of the Eastern Star and St. George AME Church in Lewes. She was a faithful member of St. George AME Church; and attended services regularly until her health made it difficult for her to attend. Elizabeth is well known throughout the community. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Emory Hill; her son, Kenneth Riley; grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Meade of Smyrna, Martha Heagy of Newark, and William R. Carter of Wilmington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Elizabeth also leaves to cherish her memories, a very close lifetime friend whom she thought of as a sister, Cora Washington of Lewes. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at St. George AME Church, 317 Park Ave., Lewes, with Rev. Gerald H. Hesson, Pastor. Reception will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 West 4th Street, Lewes. Professional and Dignified Services Provided by Miller Funeral Services, 302-947-1144.
