Downey, 72 MILLINGTON, Md. - Mary Elizabeth Downey died on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Hospice of Queen Anne's, Inc. in Centreville, Md. Mrs. Downey was born on Aug. 22, 1940 in Chestertown, Md., the daughter of the late Charles N. and L. Marie Woolford Hawkins. Mrs. Downey was a 1958 graduate of Chestertown High School. On March 30, 1959, she married Charles Downey and the two began their life together. Mrs. Downey worked as an Instructional Assistant at Sudlersville Elementary school and retired in 1995. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Rock Hall, Md.; Past President, Secretary, Vice President and Charter member of Sudlersville Fire Company Auxiliary and VFW Post 652 Auxiliary. She enjoyed ceramics, line dancing and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Glisson. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles Downey of Millington, Md.; a daughter, Elizabeth Jo Manning and husband Sam of Millington, Md.; a son, Jesse A. Downey Sr., and wife Dina of Millington, Md.; three grandchildren, Stephanie L. Anthony and husband Barrett of Millington, Md., Jesse A. Downey Jr., of Millington, Md., and Jennifer Sager and husband Alex of Millington, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Madison P. Bailey, Mia E. Tucker, Riley Lawson, and Clay Sager all of Millington, Md.; two brothers, Charles T. Hawkins Sr., of Federalsburg, Md., and William H. Hawkins of Federalsburg, Md.; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wed., May 22, 2013 at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. 130 Speer Road Chestertown, MD., where relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery following the service.
