Mary E. P. Lavender, 79 BLACKBIRD - Mary E. P. Lavender, age 79, of Blackbird, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010, at Pinnacle Rehabilitation and Health Center in Smyrna, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on Oct. 19, 1930, in Earleville, Md., to the late Clarence W. and Anna M. (Lightcap) Pearce. Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed visitors, talking, gardening, canning, cooking and helping others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel A. Lavender; two brothers, Clarence W. Pearce Jr., and Ander J. Pearce; and three sisters, Mildred Hurd, Effie Pearce, and Marion Reed. She is survived by a son, David W. "Bill" Pearce of Farmington; three daughters, Jean Taylor (David) of Dover, Wanda Fitzgerald (Kevin) of Dover, and Debra Lavender of Blackbird; two brothers, John T. Pearce of Savannah, Ga., and William R. "Billie" Pearce of Clayton; four sisters, Nellie Dittman of Clayton, Daisey Richards of Wyoming, Catherine Probst of Dover, and Margaret Ann Pearce of Georgetown; four grandchildren, David L. "Davey" Taylor, Jr., Sara Pearce, Michelle "Shelly" Husfelt and Heather Pearce; seven great-grandchildren, Harvey, Keith "Bokie", Abby, Aliyah, Alyssa, Paloma and Colin; and one great-great-granddaughter, Isabelle. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Friday, June 18, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, where family and friends may visit Thursday evening, June 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
