Mary E. Handor, 87
LEWES - Mary E. Handor of Lewes formerly of Aston, Pa., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at home. She was 87.
Mary was born March 9, 1920, in Chester, Pa., daughter of the late Antonio and Margherita (Damato) Garafola.
She worked in research and development for Scott Paper Co., Philadelphia, and other Scott locations for 33 years.
Mary moved to Lewes in the mid-70s and made it her home.
In the Lewes area, she worked at the Oneida Outlet Store, Rehoboth Beach, for 18 years.
Her co-workers at Oneida said Mary loved to sell, chat with the customers and did an outstanding job.
In addition to working, Mary spent many years as a volunteer and head of ceramics at Cape Henlopen Senior Center.
Her friends from the center say they dearly loved Mary and she was a "very special person."
Mary was a devoted sister, aunt and friend.
She loved to help others, keep active, enjoy life, eat spaghetti and sweets, and drink lots of coffee.
Those who knew her will understand.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Handor, in 1976; her siblings, Pauline Zuk and Frank Garafola; and her nephew, George Urian.
She is survived by her sisters, Rose Sheehan of Marcus Hook, Pa., and Louise Urian of Upland Pa.; her brother, Peter Garafola of Aston; nephews, William Sheehan, Robert Sheehan and Peter Garafola, all of Delaware; nieces, Margaret Stead of Virginia, and Mary Barr, Carol Hoy and Cindy Garafola, all of Pennsylvania; numerous grandnieces, grandnephews and friends; and her devoted dog, Jacque.
All will miss Mary.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Edmond's Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel avenues, Rehoboth Beach, where friends may call beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The Rev. James Downs will be celebrant.
Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, 170 Township Line Road, Linwood, Pa.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Cape Henlopen Senior Center, 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971; or to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
