Mary B. 'Mae' Tucker, 78

ELLIJAY, Ga. - Mary B. "Mae" Tucker of Ellijay, formerly of Dover, Del., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, in her home after brief illness. She was 78.

Mrs. Tucker was born June 2, 1928, in Blackpool, England, daughter of the late parents George and Jean Gibson.

She was a graduate of Elmsley School for Girls and Miss Beechum's Business School. Upon graduation, she worked for British Airways.

She married Oliver Merle Tucker in 1955, and moved to the United States in 1957 with their daughters.

Mrs. Tucker was a homemaker. She was also instrumental in the creation of the Lifelong Learning Academy through the University of Delaware in the 1980s.

She stayed in shape by playing tennis in her 60s.

Mrs. Tucker spent many hours volunteering with the PTS at her daughters' schools, Dover Air Force Base, the Gilmer Count Chamber of Commerce, Ellijay and the Faith, Hope and Charity Recycle Center. She was also involved with the British Wives Club of Dover, the Gardening Club and the United Methodist Women's Church Circle.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Janice Elaine and Michael Lalock of Ellijay and Sandra Louise McGowen of Blue Springs, Mo.; her grandchildren, Megan Lalock, Colin Lalock and Allison McGowen.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Torbert Funeral Home, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden, Del.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American cancer Society, or Georgia Mountains Hospice, P.O. Box 580, Jasper, GA 30143.
