Mary Atwell Hill, 86
KENNEDYVILLE, Md. - Mary Atwell Hill, of Kennedyville, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. She was 86.
Mary A. Hill was born March 22, 1922, in Locust Grove, daughter of the late Oliver Winfield Atwell and Nellie (Jones) Atwell.
Mrs. Hill grew up and spent her entire life in the Kennedyville area.
She married the late H. Julian Hill in 1938. They owned and operated a dairy farm, where she actively engaged in the daily routines of the operation.
Mrs. Hill was a lifelong member of the Kennedyville United Methodist Church, a member of the Farm Bureau and she also volunteered for a number of years at the hospital's Nearly New Shop.
She was an ardent supporter of 4-H and was a presence at dairy shows where her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren often participated.
She enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Timko.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly H. Jones and husband Larry of Kennedyville and Lee Hill Tolson and husband Jamie of Centreville; two sons, Allan J. Hill and wife Bonnie of Kennedyville and H. Jay Hill and wife Pat of Kennedyville; three sisters, Frances Money, Dorothy Pinder and Margaret Miller, all of Kennedyville; one brother, Clifton Atwell and wife Elsie of Kennedyville; eight grandchildren, Mark Hill and wife Beverly of Greensboro, N.C., Robin Welch and husband Frankie of Chestertown, David Hill and wife Beth of Kennedyville, Dianne Townshend and husband Steve of Kennedyville, Katie Dixon of Missouri, Brett Dixon and wife Jessy of Missouri, and Travis Dixon, Nicholas Jones and Laura Jones, all of Kennedyville; two step-grandchildren, Robbie Tolson of Centreville and Kristen Wheaton and husband Jeff of Grasonville; and eight great-grandchildren, Patrick and Parker Welch, Alex and Abby Hill, Jesse Townshend, Austin Hill, Dylan Hill and Whitney Dixon.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Interment will be held in Still Pond Cemetery.
