HARRINGTON - Mrs. Mary A. Martin went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in her home surrounded by her family. She was 85. She was born in Olean, N.Y., daughter of the late John and Anna Levandoski Kolata. On August 30, 1941, she married Frederick D. Martin. In January of 1950, they moved to Harrington where they farmed, raised broiler chickens and grew grain. In 1966, they retired from farming and built a new home. Prior to her husband's death, they enjoyed spending their winters together in Florida. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker who cherished the time she spent with her husband, raising their two children, and later with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and especially found great pleasure in helping others. Mrs. Martin was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Frederick D. Martin; a brother, Joseph Kolata; and a sister, Helen Wallon. She is survived by a son, David J. Martin of Harrington; daughter, Jean Marie Reid of Colorado; brother, John Kolata of Olean, N.Y.; grandchildren, Fred J. Martin and his wife Katrina, Barbara Rost, Ann Marie Anacay, Katharine Wright, and Thomas Duffey; and seven great-grandchildren. Services were 1 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009 at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.
