Marvin 'Sugarboy' Thorpe, 77
FELTON - Marvin "Sugarboy" Thorpe of Felton passed away in his home on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 77.
Marvin was born on Feb. 27, 1930, in Henderson, Md., son of the late Charles H., Sr. and Emma Jane (Russum) Thorpe.
He was employed with Playtex in Dover for 41 years and retired several years ago.
Marvin always enjoyed the simpler things in life and raising his family.
He loved the land and animals and in his younger years, enjoyed hunting.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine W. Thorpe in 1997; a daughter, Emma Jayne Benjamin; two brothers, Charles Thorpe and Edward Thorpe; and five sisters, Phyllis McCarrier, Mildred Cannon, Helen Rhul, Rosezene Edwards and Myrtle Keifer.
He is survived by two sons, Marvin E., Jr. and his wife Vicky Thorpe and Gary E. Thorpe and friend Donna Workman; a daughter, Mary E. White and husband George H., all of Felton; seven grandchildren, Marvin E. Thorpe III of Florida, Tiffany Ellmore of Felton, Shawn Ellmore of Kansas, Herbert Hitchner of Smyrna, Jayne Bisiliko of Woodside, Veronica Thorpe of Milford and Destiny Thorpe of Little Heaven; step granddaughter, AnnMarie Johnson; step grandson, Matthew Elliott; nine great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Thorpe of Harrington; and a sister, Doris Puckett of Sudlersville, Md.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Marvin will be laid to rest next to his wife, Josephine, at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Sandtown.
