Martin Royston Pettit, 71

MILLSBORO - Martin Royston Pettit of Millsboro died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, in his home. He was 71.

Mr. Pettit was born in New Church, Va., son of the late Martin and Mildred (Covington) Pettit.

He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency from 1957 to 1960.

He was an auditor for Farmers Bank of the State of Delaware until 1982. Later he worked at Omni Bank for 10 years.

Mr. Pettit was a member of Conley's United Methodist Church near Angola and Gideons International. He was also a member of the Wildlife Federation and Nature Conservancy. He was a lifetime member of the Delaware Agriculture Museum.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley (Messick) Pettit; a brother, Edward C. Pettit of Georgetown; and a sister, Elizabeth F. Hearn of Georgetown.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Conley's Chapel Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Gideons International, 2900 Lebanon Road, Nashville, TN 37214; or Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
