MOCKSVILLE, N.C. - Mark Hennessey died on March 2, 2012, at home in Mocksville, N.C., after a long battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 24, 1957, to Joseph J. and Lore Hennessey at Fort Dix, N.J. He attended Felton Elementary School and Dover High School in Delaware. He served in the U.S. Army for a short period of time. He loved the Atlantic Ocean and fishing at Indian River Inlet in Delaware. He was a waterman at Tilghman Island, Md., working out in the Chesapeake Bay for several years. He was also a farmhand in Delaware at Hopkins Farm in Seaford, Del., and then moved to North Carolina where he worked at Jockey for 8 years. Although weakened by the cancer, he was able, by the grace of God and the kindness of his brother, John, to make one last visit to his beloved beach last July and was able to make another visit to Maryland to attend his son Michael's wedding in August. Mark was baptized into the Catholic Church on May 1, 2011, and died peacefully in the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ. He married the love of his life Deborah on Oct. 20, 1995, and together they raised four sons. Mark was proud of the fact that his wife Debbie as well as sons, Mark, Jeremy, Michael, and Richard proudly serve their country in the Army and National Guard. Mark will be reuniting with his father CWO Joseph Hennessey, his nephew, David Pritchett, and sister-in-law, Faye Wood, by whom he was predeceased. He is survived by his wife, as well as his sons, Mark G. Hennessey and his wife Jessica and Jeremy Hennessey of Mocksville, N.C., Richard Millman, stationed at Ft Bragg N.C., Michael Millman and his wife Alexis of Seaford, Del.; his mother, Lore Evans of Salisbury, N.C.; a sister, Rose Pritchett and her husband Bobby of Felton Del.; three brothers, Brian Hennessey and wife Marsha of Ripley, Miss., James Hennessey and wife Seglinda of Statesville, N.C., and John Hennessey and wife Joyce of Smyrna, Del.; two sisters-in-law, Linda Darlene Buckles and her husband Steve of Lincoln, Del., and Wanda Cahall Bowles and husband Donald of Mocksville, N.C.; and a brother-in-law, John Stafford and his wife Vera of Houston, Del. Mark also leaves a host of nieces and nephews in Delaware and North Carolina whom he loved and who loved him dearly. A Memorial Service will be 4 p.m., today, March 8, 2012, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. At Mark's request the urn containing his ashes will be dropped into his beloved Atlantic Ocean following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to your favorite charity in memory of Mark Hennessey.
