LAUREL - Mark A. "Coot" Williams, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018.
Mark was born on Aug. 4, 1964 to Harold and Joan (Gordon) Williams. He graduated from Sussex Central in 1982. He most recently had worked for Stockley Materials and was also the owner and operator of his own pool business.
His racing career started over 30 years ago in 1988. With the sponsorship of the late Bill Lawson and his wife, Pat Lawson, c/o ASI in Milton, DE in 2000, he was able to fulfill his dreams of racing. With the additional help of Bob and Debbie Geiger he was able to continue working, building, and racing cars. Together the three were able to build his last two Southern Delaware Vintage cars.
Mark was also a member of the DE Vintage Club since 2007. Notably, winning "3 in a row" Championships with Street Modified in 2002, 2003, 2004; the Southern DE Vintage Racing Club Modified Champion in 2016, and again, this year (2018); and also the 2016 Vintage Modified DE State Champion. Just this past weekend, with Ross Robinson taking the wheel, ending up in Victory Lane winning the 12 Lap Vintage Feature Race in Delmar, making it 9-0 with one race left for the season in Georgetown.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Brenda (Pinder) Williams; sons, Mark Williams Jr., and Luke Williams; step-children, Kristy Martin, Shannon Martin, and DJ Cameron; brother, Michael Williams; grandchildren, Rylee Scott, Braydon MacDonald, Jaxson Webb, Logan Cameron, and Raegan O'Neal; sister-in-law, Julie (Pinder) Harrison; brother-in-law, Kenny Pinder, Jr.; aunts, Jeanette Hudson, Doris Wilkins (Wayne), and Grace Reeves; uncles, Harry Gordon (Pat), Joe Gordon (Gloria), and Robert Williams; and his beloved cat, Cletus.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE 19947, where friends may call after 10 a.m. A visitation will also be held the night before on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Millsboro Cemetery.
