Marie Murphy Gannon, 79

MILFORD - Marie Murphy Gannon, 79, of Milford, died Friday, Sep. 4, 2009, after a corageous battle with a long illness at Atlantic Shores in Millsboro, surrounded by her loving family. She is the daughter of the late Paul James Murphy and Katherine D. Williams Murphy. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Louis A. Gannon 1973; a brother, Paul J. Murphy Jr. 1992 ; sister, June Michael; and her devoted companion, Arthur M. Hayes 2007. She was born in Wilmington, and graduated from P.S. Dupont High School in 1948 and worked as a Bank Teller for 14 years and then at Colony Inn Motel as a receptionist for 10 years. She was a member of Avenue Methodist Church and the AARP Group of Milford. Mrs. Gannon is survived by three daughters, Patti L. Teed of Bridgeville, Julie Gannon of Pensacola, Fla., and Carol Schaap and her husband Randolph L. of Milford; two sons, Michael Gannon of Wilmington, and Matthew of Milford; 12 grandchildren, Shauna Baird and husband Steve, Amber Elliott and husband Dean, Patrick Teed, Brandon Whitmore, Lisa Constantino, DJ and Brook Downes, Leslie, Cpl. Derek, Philip Schaap, Lindasy and Matthew Gannon; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline Lance of West Grove, Pa. Mrs. Gannon had a great sense of humor and loved watching the Food Network Channels, especially Barefoot Contessa, who was her favorite. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, where friend may call from noon to 1 p.m. Interment will be Milford Community Cemetery, Milford.
