Marie Ott Garbutt, 92

MILFORD - Marie Ott Garbutt, of Milford, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Bayhealth Medical Center of Milford. She was 92. Mrs. Garbutt was born in Elkton, Md., daughter of the late Richard and Daisey Richardson Ott. Mrs. Garbutt spent her childhood years in Elkton, graduating from Elkton High School before moving to Wilmington where she attended Goldey Beacom College. Upon graduating, she was employed as a secretary by DuPont Co., in Wilmington for a number of years. She was a homemaker, along with providing, as needed, assistance to the family business, Atlantic Concrete Co. She was a member of Avenue United Methodist Church Milford and the Milford Senior Center. For a number of years, she was a volunteer for the Milford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary to include playing a very active role, in the early years, of the Milford Hospital Fair. She served as Booth Chairwoman many years, and also as Co-Chair for the Hospital Fair. She was a member of the Shawnee Country Club, also in Milford. She is survived by a daughter, Gail Garbutt of Bethany Beach and several cousins. Her late husband, of 67 years, Thomas Garbutt passed way on Jan. 10, 2009. Burial will be private. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, to honor Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Garbutt. The family suggests in lieu of flowers contributions to the Milford Library Building Fund Drive, 11 SE Front Street, Milford, DE 19963 Attn: Kay Hudson or Norma Chalmers.
