MILFORD - Margie Lee Smith, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. Mrs. Smith was born in Laurel, the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian (Culver) Gootee. She was a homemaker and a caregiver of the elderly. She enjoyed crocheting and bowling. She was a member of Avenue U.M. Church, United Methodist Women, and a volunteer at the Milford Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. Smith; a son, John Robert Smith, in Aug. 2007; a grandson, Kevin Smith; two great-grandsons, Brandon Hastings and Justin Redlich; and her sisters, Florence Truitt and Mary Ann Littleton. She is survived by her children, Nancy Webb, of Ellendale, Louise Hastings and her husband Harvey, of Milford, Priscilla Rogers and her husband Danny, of Lincoln, and Carol Ann Wilkins and Joel Blessing, of Milford; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren; and sisters and brothers, Kathryn Ward and Bessie Foskey, both of Seaford, Ralph Gootee, of Laurel, Gardner Gootee, of Delmar, George Gootee, of South America, and Bobbie Gootee, of Fla. Funeral Services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford. Burial was in Milford Community Cemetery, Milford.
