Margaret 'Maggie'
Kennedy , 77
CAMDEN, Del. - Margaret "Maggie" Kennedy passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, May 16, in Dover, Del.
Maggie was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, daughter to Thomas and Mary Boyd. Maggie spent the earliest part of her life in Scotland, and after her education was employed as a secretary on the U.S. Air Force base R.A.F. Kirknewton (Scotland). It was at Kirknewton that Maggie met a young Irish American Airman named John W. Kennedy, whom she would marry in 1968. Their honorable 33-year Air Force journey would take the family to military assignments in England, Germany, Mississippi, South Carolina, Illinois, California, New Mexico, and finally to Dover, Delaware. Maggie became an amazing mother with the birth of two sons, Jason and Ryan.
The role of military wife and mother can be a daunting one, but Maggie accepted it and rose to the challenge gracefully. She was the strength and backbone of the family and a hero to a family who adored her. She possessed the perfect blend of humor and humility and guided the Kennedy family with an unwavering calm demeanor. Her laughter was loud, plentiful, and highly infectious, as the citizens of three countries and six time zones can attest. A chef, an intellectual, a music lover, a non-fiction aficionado, a sports fan and a foody – she embraced (and celebrated) life through its many creative avenues. If she weren't participating in any of these favorite hobbies of hers – she would be curating her stylish wardrobe and jewelry collection from the far too familiar aisles of Talbot's. Maggie also proudly served her community as an active member for the Irish Society of Delmarva previously serving on the board of directors. Maggie eventually became a U.S. citizen, and while she was a proud American, the Scottish blood ran through her veins fiercely and proudly up until the moment she passed.
Maggie was a beloved wife, cherished mother, and grandmother. We lost her because her heart was too weak to contain all the love she held in it. Her spirit, love, and joy for life will live on through her family and two of her favorite people, her grandsons Luke and Gavin.
She is survived by sons Jason and Ryan, daughter-in-law Lizette Kennedy (grandsons Luke and Gavin), brother Robert Boyd (Margaret); her niece Susan Chapman (Stuart) with great-nieces and nephews, Robbie and Rebeka, niece Debbie Harkness (Pete) with great-nephew Danny and sister-in-law Helen Kennedy.
She will be laid to rest next to the Airman that swept her off her feet 53 years ago.
