Abbott, 88 HARRINGTON - Margaret Frances Abbott, formerly of Harrington, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Kent General Hospital. Margaret was born Nov. 12, 1926 in Overlook, Delaware to the late Benjamin Gifford and Elizabeth Beecraft Gifford. She lived the majority of her childhood years in St. Michaels, Maryland and moved to Pennsylvania during WWII to work for the Congoleum Company making products to support the war effort. It was during this time that she met her husband, William "Bill" Abbott. Over the next 70 years they lived in Pennsylvania, and Maryland until returning again to Delaware in the late 1960's. She had worked for Harowe-Servo, an aerospace manufacturing company in West Chester, PA for over 20 years retiring as team leader in the Rotor Department, in 1988. Margaret loved traveling and after retiring her and Bill logged thousands of miles together and toured the entire country. Margaret also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, doing ceramics, horse racing, and bowling where she had won many trophies and awards. Her biggest love, however, was her time spent with her family. She loved going out and having a good time with her sisters and her daughters, playing games with her grandchildren, and looked forward to family reunions and holidays where her large family could catch-up and enjoy great food, old and new stories, and plenty of laughter. Margaret was a former member of the US Trotting Association (USTA) and the Standardbred Owners Association. During her senior year's she also was a member of the Modern Maturity Center and the Heritage Senior Center. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, William Charles Abbott, Jr.; her daughter, Patricia Ann; and seven brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband, William C. Abbott of Magnolia; daughters, Linda Arcaro and her husband Andrew of Hebron, MD, Margaret Windle of Hartly, DE, Elizabeth Pleasanton and her husband Andrew of Townsend, DE, Beatrice Cook and her husband Kevin of Magnolia, DE, and Rebecca Barber and her husband Larry of Winterhaven, FL; brothers, John Albert Gifford and his wife Barbara of Easton, MD, William Gifford and his wife Jeanette of Crum Lynn, PA, Thomas Gifford of Delmar, DE, and Walter Gifford and his wife Linda of Lake Stevens, WA; sister, Mildred Flemming of Hurlock, MD; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 1PM, Monday, June 22, 2015 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 11-1.
