Margaret Bond Phelps, 80
MERRY HILL, N.C. - Margaret Bond Phelps of Blackbeard Beach, N.C., formerly of Felton, Del., died on Sunday, May 27, 2007, in Chowan Hospital, Edenton, N.C. She was 80.
She was born in Windsor, N.C. on March 8, 1927, to the late, Walter Holland Bond Sr. and Elizabeth Murphy Bond.
She received an AB degree from Women"s College, now UNCG in Greensboro, N.C., a master"s degree from the University of Delaware in Newark, and a doctorate of education from NOVA University.
A former principal at Lake Forest High School in Felton, she retired in 1987 after 30 years in the field of education.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Seaton Earnhardt Phelps Jr.; a sister, Jane Bond Wallace; and a brother, Walter Holland Bond Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Chris Frazier and husband, Jerry of Summerville, S.C., and Peggy Schaaf and husband, Rick of Salem, Va.; five grandchildren, Laura Frazier of Lexington, Va., Susan Frazier of Columbia, S.C., David Schaaf and wife, Danielle of Richmond, Va., Julie Schaaf and Kelly Schaaf, both of Salem, Va.; one great-grandchild, Connor Schaaf of Richmond, Va.; her sister, Clara Bond Bell and husband, Holley Mack; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Thomas Bond; her brother-in-law, Bob Phelps and wife, Sandra; five nephews and six nieces.
A joint funeral service was held Tuesday at Windsor United Methodist Church in Windsor, N.C.
Burial will be at Edgewood Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be sent in lieu of flowers to the Historic Hope Foundation, 132 Hope House Road, Windsor, NC 27983.
