Margaret A. Bingham

TOWNSEND - Margaret A. "Peggy" Bingham, 75, of Townsend, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Kent General Hospital/Bayhealth in Dover. Born on May 25, 1935, in Danville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clyde Gilbert and Mildred (Heiss) Vandling. Peggy, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Mifflinville Consolated High School in 1953. She was retired from Delaware State University, where she worked as a secretary and later as an administrative assistant for 20 years. In her earlier years, Margaret was actively involved within the community and enjoyed many interests throughout her life. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed cooking and canning, playing the piano, and reading. Before moving to Townsend, she was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church choir, the Brandywiners and Wilmington Opera Society. She especially enjoyed the performances at Longwood gardens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. "Jack" Bingham in 2009. Peggy leaves to cherish her many memories, a daughter, Julie Moran and her husband, Lee, of Smyrna; a son, John Bingham and his wife, Dianne, of Townsend; a brother, Gilbert C. Vandling; a special friend, Janet Ottman; three grandchildren, Krysti and John Bingham and Jenny Moran; her mother-in-law, Jule Bingham; as well as many dear friends. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, where friends may visit Thursday evening, Feb. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 12 to 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery where Peggy will be laid to rest with her loving husband. Memorial contributions can be made in honor of her granddaughter to the Krysti Bingham Cerebral Palsy Foundation, Inc., 5577 South DuPont Parkway, Smyrna, DE 19977.
