Major James Daniel McNair, 79 DOVER - Major James Daniel McNair, 79, of Dover, died Jan. 28, 2010, at Bayhealth in Dover, surrounded by his loving family members. James was born July 30, 1930, in Indiana to the late James D. Sr. and Mabel L. Thompson McNair. James came to Delaware as a Air Force Pilot making Delaware his home, retiring in 1972. During the Vietnam war James flew more than 80 missions over enemy territory. James had been employed by the state of Delaware for a period of time, he then went to work for Omni Energies and retired in 1994. James was an avid world traveler and enjoyed very much flying model airplanes, especially the C-141 B. James attended Holy Cross Church and was a member of Kappa Psi Fraternity, YMCA state and local, the Salvation Army, Friends of John Dickinson Mansion, VFW Post # 3238, AL Walter L. Fox Post # 0002, and Capitol Esquires of Dover. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Calva J. McNair; two sons, James D. III and Renee McNair of Connecticut, and Kent Roberto McNair of Ohio; four daughters, Beth Alice and Greg Hardy of New Jersey, Toni Nicole McNair and friend Cheryl of Delaware City, Trina Marie and Paul Haxton of Middletown, and stepdaughter, Melinda L. and Robert Weber of Dover; eight grandchildren, Nolan, Lauryn and Anthony McNair, Tyler, Lyndsey and Hayley Haxton, and Clair and Olivia Weber; and brother, Marshall McNair of California. Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., today, at Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 341 Saulsbury Road, Dover. Burial will be in Veterans Cemetery, Bear. Condolences may be faxed to 302-947-9442. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services.
