Maggie Benson, 85

GREENWOOD - Maggie Benson of Greenwood died Saturday, May 26, 2007, in Capitol Nursing Home, Dover. She was 85.

Mrs. Benson was born May 30, 1921, in Robertsville, S.C., daughter of the late Annie Rice and Ernest Brown Sr.

She was raised in Allendale, S.C., and moved to Greenwood in 1953.

Mrs. Benson worked many years in Caroline Poultry, Federalsburg, Md., and later worked at Cannon and Delaney Foods in Bridgeville.

She was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Dublin Hill, until her illness prevented her attendance. She served in various organizations to include the Usher Board and the United Methodist Women.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Benson; a daughter, Queen Esther McMillion; two brothers, Land Brown and James E. Brown Sr.; and a sister, Georgia Walker.

She is survived by seven grandchildren whom she raised; four grandsons and three granddaughters-in-law, Robert Lee (Valerie) McMillion of Gastonia, N.C., Marvin McMillion of Greenwood, James (Sharon) McMillion of Houston and Austin (Ruth) McMillion of New Castle; three granddaughters, Ernestine McMillion of New Jersey, JoAnne (Edward) Holder of Felton and Jacqueline McMillion and her fiance, Roger Nolan Jr. of Baltimore; a niece, Rebecca Wilson of Savannah, Ga.; six half-sisters, Josephine Taylor, Rebecca Garvin and Teen Brown of New Jersey, Carrie Jenkins of Philadelphia, Betty Garvin and Topsi Brown of South Carolina; and a half-brother, Willie Brown of New Jersey; two brothers-in-law, Rudolph and Leslie Benson; and two sisters-in-law, Helena Perkins and Pauline Benson-Suber, all of Philadelphia; 21 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins; two special friends who are like sisters, Dora Bell of Greenwood and Lula Mae Martin of Bridgeville; and four adopted granddaughters, Janet Bordley of Felton, Michelle Wylie of Baltimore, Lisa Powell of Harrington and Rev. Sonja Ayers of Lincoln.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Bennie Smith Funeral Services, 717 W. Division St., Dover.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bridgeville.
