FELTON - Mabel M. Woikoski passed away at home surrounded by her loving family early Saturday, July 26, 2014 after a brief illness. She was 93. Mabel was born October 18, 1920 in Harrington, Delaware to the late Wilson and Ethel Holden. Mabel was a housewife and previously worked on the family farm with her husband, Herman, whom she married in 1940. For several years, she and her husband raised chickens on their farm. She was a 50 year life member of the Felton Fire Company Auxiliary having reached this milestone this past April, a member of the Felton Viola United Methodist Church and the Harrington Senior Center. While she was able, Mabel was very active in the Felton Auxiliary, having served as Vice-President and on the Sunshine Committee. Her dedication inspired her two granddaughters to join the Auxiliary when they were teenagers. She enjoyed going out to dinner whenever and wherever, just tell her when you would pick her up. Mabel had a sweet tooth, always having room for dessert, especially vanilla fudge ice cream. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by her family. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and aides at Delaware Hospice and her home aide of the last three years Lori Teall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Herman, in 1996; brother, Marshall Holden; and sister, Ida Roland. She is survived by her son, Donald Woikoski and his wife Kathleen; daughter, Shirley Foxwell and her husband George; grandchildren, Annette Ashley, Tracey Parker and Michael Woikoski; great-grandson, Brent Ashley; step-grandchildren, George and April Foxwell; step-great granddaughter, Amie Evans and her daughter Addison; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton. A visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in the funeral home. Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Felton Viola U.M. Church, PO Box 247, Felton, DE 19943 or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
