M. Virginia Carey, 89

DOVER - M. Virginia Carey of Dover died Monday, May 14, 2007, in her home. She was 89.

Mrs. Carey was born Sept. 15, 1917, in Dover, to the late Clarence and Lillian (Melvin) Burris.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, growing African violets and watching her soap operas.

Mrs. Carey was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Dover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Fred Carey, in 1982; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Wayne Smith, and a granddaughter, Karen, who all died May 14, 1971; a sister, Kathryn Warner; and a brother, Earl Burris.

Mrs. Carey is survived by a son, John Fred Carey Jr. and his wife Mary Anderson of Springfield, Va.; two daughters, Betty Jean "BJ" Ryder of Felton, and Freda M. Thomas and her husband Butch of Federalsburg, Md.; eight grandchildren, Kenny Ryder and his wife Suzie of Coral Springs, Fla., Terri Kessel of Dover, Michele Algire and her husband Ed of Abingdon, Md., Patti Eigenbrode and her husband Jeff of Denton, Md., Debbie Brohawn and her husband Charles of Federalsburg, Michael Feyl and his wife Karen of Seaford, Matthew Carey and Mark Carey of Springfield; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Sylvester of Dover; a brother-in-law, Franklin Carey of Dover; her sisters-in-law, Mary Willis and Catherine Moor, both of Dover; and many nieces and nephews. She was looking forward to the birth of her 10th great-grandchild on May 22.

She will also be missed by her loving care givers, Clara Orozco, Thelma Kemp, Betty Starkey and Joy Bishop.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
