DOVER - M. Vera Olsen died on Friday, June 6, 2008, in Capitol Health Care, Dover. She was 88.
She was born on Dec. 19, 1919, in Danville, Pa, to the late Arthur M. and Hester Purcell Foust.
Vera grew up in Danville on a successful family-run dairy farm.
Vera and her two older sisters attended Bloomsburg College.
Upon graduation with her degree in education she taught in Fernville in a one-room school house.
In 1950 she married Richard Olsen and the family lived in Danville until 1965 when they moved to Huntingdon Valley where she was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Huntingdon Valley, Pa., as well as a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, Grovania, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard C. Olsen; and a sister, Cora M. Foust.
Vera is survived by three daughters, Carol O. Neylan and her husband Robert of Dover, Jane O. Leonard and her husband Colin of Harwich, Mass., and Joan O. Guiney and her husband William of Chester Spring, Pa.; one sister, Renna B. Foust; seven grandchildren, Joseph "Chip" Wesley, Alyson Wesley, Jennifer Brennan, Lauren Neylan, and Susan Neylan, Kevin Leonard and Jeffrey Leonard; and six great-grandchildren, Jordan Marie, Terry III, and Elizabeth Brennan, and Braydon, Hunter and McCay Mangum.
Funeral services will be noon Thursday in St. Peters Lutheran Church in Grovania with her pastor, the Rev. Gretchen Johanson officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations to VITAS, 100 Commerce Dr. Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713; Delaware Hospice, 911 Lotus St., Dover, DE 19901; or St. Peters Lutheran Church, Grovania, PA.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Brady Funeral Home, Inc., Danville, Pa., and Trader Funeral Home, Dover.
