Luzzella Whitney

DOVER - Luzzella Whitney went to be with the Lord, at her home in Dover, on Tuesday February 9, 2016. She was born May 29, 1926 in Auburn, Ky. to the late PoPa Beason and Rose Beason (McKinney). She began her walk with the Lord at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Frankfort, Ky., later moving to State Street Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Ky. She was a graduate of High Street High School also located in Bowling Green. Upon moving to Delaware via the Air Force, Mama Luzzella worked at the Air Force Base Youth Center. She loved people of all ages, but especially enjoyed working with young boys and girls, encouraging them along the road to meaningful adult hood. In addition to her parents Mama Luzzella was preceded in death by Chief Master Sergeant James W. Whitney, Sr. of Bowling Green, Ky., her husband of 60 years. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dexter L. Whitney of Dover; four brothers, Hobart, Aubrey, Otha, and Walter Beason; two sisters, Earle Beason and Eva Mae Roberts all residing in Kentucky. Mama Luzzella is survived by nine of her children, Carolyn W. Harris of Magnolia, James W. Whitney, Jr. (Leslie) of Chino Hills, Calif., twin boys Rev. Jonathan Whitney (Patricia) of Newark, and David Whitney (Susan), Leta Charmin Daniel (Tony) of Fayetteville, N.C., Keith Whitney of Bear, Christopher L. Whitney (Carrie) of Dover, Anthony L. Whitney of Dover, and Jeffery A. Whitney (Holly) of Dover. She is also survived by a host of Grand's, Great Grand's and Great Great Grand children as well as nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Compassionate Care Hospice in memory of Luzzella Whitney, 20165 Office Circle, Suite #2, Georgetown, DE 19947. Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at Calvary Assemblies of God Church, 1141 East Lebanon Road, Dover. There will be a one hour viewing before the service.
