Luther John 'Doc' Savage, 79
SELBYVILLE - Luther John "Doc" Savage died on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. He was 79.
Mr. Savage was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Bishopville, Md., son of the late Ollie J. and Maude (McCabe) Savage.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on a minesweeper in the South Pacific.
He was employed at H&H Poultry, Selbyville, many years ago. Mr. Savage then worked at Dresser Industries, Wayne Division, in the maintenance, manufacturing and testing departments, retiring in 1988, after 36 years of service.
Mr. Savage assisted in the construction of the Selbyville Assembly of God Church, where he was a charter member. He actively served his church as a Sunday school secretary, superintendent, board member, treasurer, usher and greeter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtha (Wells) Savage; three brothers, Ollie Savage Jr., Richard Savage, and Carlton Savage; and three sisters, Mabel Lewis, Maude Savage, and Catherine Hudson.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Marietta and James Hall of Laurel, and Barbara J. Savage of Selbyville; two brothers, Edward Savage of Dagsboro and William Savage of Clarksville; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Madeline McGee of Ocean View, Lillian and Elisha Tingle of Gumboro; M. June and Louis Hickman of Millsboro, and Shirley West of Bishopville; two sisters-in law, Jackie Savage of St. Martin's Neck, and Jean Savage of Gumboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held in the Selbyville Assembly of God Church, Selbyville. The Rev. Leroy Weymouth, assisted by the Rev. Edward LeCates, officiated.
