HARRINGTON - Lulu Marie "Sis" Perry-Russ, of Harrington, departed this life Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the Milford Center. She was 84.
She was born May 19, 1923, in Felton, daughter of the late Clarence and Ellen Perry.
Sis received her education at Pierre S. Dupont in Harrington.
She was employed for 19 years by Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, formerly Milford Memorial Hospital, and retired as an environmental specialist on Feb. 19, 1988.
Sis loved spending time with family and friends.
As she walked her three miles a day through the town of Harrington at the crack of dawn, her sense of humor, smile and laughter enlightened many hearts. She knew who had gone to work and who was late getting started.
Sis joined St. Paul AME Church in Harrington as a young adult and served as a member of the Leah E. Coleman Women's Missionary Society, the Stewardess board and the Pastor's Aide Society for many years.
She was preceded in death by her son, William Conaway; three sisters, Florence Perry, Edna Dickerson and Elva Mosley; and one brother, James Perry.
She leaves to cherish her memories three children, Mary Ellen Henderson of Milford, Harold Russ Sr. and Samuel Lee Russ and his wife Lula, all of Indianapolis; an adopted daughter, Velma Jones of Harrington; three brothers, Randall Perry of Columbus, Ga., Harold Perry and his wife Mary of Frederica, and Isaac Perry and his wife Yvonne of Harrington; eight grandchildren, Cecelia Russ of Smyrna, Theresa Henderson of Harrington, Joselyn Ingram and Harold Russ Jr., both of Indianapolis, Russell Conaway of Houston, Del., Vernon Conaway of Dover, Andrea Conaway of Atlanta, Ga., and Thea Becton of Bel Air, Md.; two step-grandchildren, Tangela Bush and Kevin Wiggins, both of Indianapolis; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be at noon Monday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may view two hours prior.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
