Louzetta Schafer Lower Morris was called home to God on Dec. 5, 2016 following a short illness. Louzetta was born in Worchester, Mass., and moved as a young child to Delaware, where she became a beloved and devoted Delawarean for the remainder of her life. Louzetta was raised in Wilmington and spent her summers in Rehoboth Beach. Louzetta graduated from P.S. du Pont High School in 1939 and the University of Delaware in 1943 with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education. Louzetta enjoyed junior high school, high school, particularly at the local hangout "Patsy's," and her college experience with a wide circle of friends, and she excelled in athletics, dancing, and academics. In 1943 Louzetta married a high school and college suitor, Edward Vincent Lower, and they were gifted a 37 year marriage blessed with four children. Throughout their marriage they lived in Wilmington and spent every possible seasonal weekend at their second home in Rehoboth Beach. The young newlyweds loved Rehoboth Beach so much that they built their first home in 1945 directly across from the original Rehoboth Beach Country Club while living in an apartment in Wilmington. In 1955 Ed and Lou moved from downtown Wilmington to Carrcroft Crest where they raised their children and savored entertaining family and an extraordinary network of lifelong friends and neighbors. At their insistence and continued pleasure, the Lower homes in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach had a gravitational pull of hospitality, fun, generosity, laughter, and friendship. "Mrs. Lower," more often known as "Aunt Lou," became a multi-generational second mother and confidante to innumerable nieces, nephews, and children of friends and neighbors. Ed was a well-known insurance and securities broker in Wilmington, and the couple entertained for both business and pleasure. Ed and Lou each possessed a gift to make others feel valued and at ease, and they entertained frequently and with style. They also reveled in traveling, sporting events, and were continually on the go. Ed and Louzetta were members of the Wilmington Country Club and charter members of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Louzetta was a longstanding parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Wilmington; and St. Edmond's Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach. Louzetta taught various classes in Social Studies and English at Brandywine High School and Concord High School in the 1970s, but her primary vocation was as a wife, sister, friend, and mother. Louzetta loved history, music, "Big Band" dancing, parties, theatre, current events, reading, and kids activities. Louzetta was also an avid UD football season ticket fan, and rain or shine was found tailgating with friends and family before cheering the Blue Hens onto victory for more than 40 years. After Ed Lower's untimely death in 1980, Louzetta retired full-time to Rehoboth Beach. In 1982 she married Captain Albert T. Morris, original first captain of the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. The couple enjoyed a loving second marriage of a dozen years, spending most of the year in Rehoboth Beach and winters in Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach, Fla. The couple experienced a very active social life and their recreated home in Rehoboth Beach was designed for year-round comfort and entertaining. Throughout these retirement years, Louzetta cherished being with friends and family in the midst of Rehoboth Beach amenities: beach, boardwalk, ocean, restaurants, and bistros.
