Lola E. Locke, 88

DOVER - Lola E. Locke of Dover died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a long illness. She was 88.

Mrs. Locke was born in Mississippi on Aug. 14, 1919, the only daughter of the late Henry and Julia (Alickner) Eaves.

She spent her young life in Leesville, La., and most of her adult life in New Jersey.

Mrs. Locke married her husband, Metro D. Locke, on March 8, 1941, in Newark, N.J.

In the early 1980s she and her husband retired and moved back to Louisiana.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Locke was a dedicated wife, mother, daughter and grandmother.

She found joy in the simple things and was an avid nature lover.

Mrs. Locke cherished the time she spent with her friends and family and she loved to travel.

In her quieter moments she enjoyed painting landscapes.

She will be missed because of her kindness.

Mrs. Locke was a graduate of Evans High School in Leesville, past president of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 3 in Westfield, N.J., and past president of the AARP and the triad in Leesville.

During the past two years she resided with her son and his family in Dover.

She enjoyed being a participant in the adult daybreak program at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Metro D. Locke, on Oct. 5, 2005.

Mrs. Locke is survived by her only son, George Nicholas Locke of Dover; her daughter-in-law, Margaret; her grandchildren, Jason A. Locke and Julie A. Locke; and 10 nieces and six nephews.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.

Burial will be at a later date in Leesville at Pine Hill Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Locke's name may be made to the Adult Daybreak Program, Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Ave., Dover, DE 19904.
