Leslie Kemp Brown, 79

CHESTER, Md. - Leslie Kemp Brown of Chester died on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, in Anne Arundel Hospital, Annapolis. He was 79.

Mr. Brown was born Dec. 29, 1927, to the late Ernest and Ada Brown.

He attended school in Queen Anne's County Maryland and graduated from Kennard High School in 1946.

Mr. Brown worked on the water as a waterman for many years.

In 1957, he was honorably discharged from military service.

Mr. Brown was a quiet and meek person who loved his God, Jehovah, actively participated in the ministry, and always loved his family and friends.

He was baptized on Jan. 21, 1967, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and served as a faithful member of the Queenstown congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, during which time he served as both an Elder and Ministral of Servant.

Mr. Brown was married to Florence Gleaves on Dec. 1, 1951, and through this marriage they had six children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ada Brown; one son, Carl Brown; one brother, Robinson Brown; two sisters, Evelyn Goines and Dorothy Gatewood; and a brother-in-law, Booker Tilghman.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Florence Brown; five children, Celeste McQueen and her husband Keith of Greenwood, Del., Alton K. Brown and his wife Chandra of Grasonville, Mary Brown of Chester, Florence White and her husband Kevin of Chester, and Cheryl Hopkins and her husband Devon of Georgetown, Del.; six grandchildren, Ulinda Brown, Shawnise Meekins and her husband Antoine, Tina Brown, Kenea White, Mylow Hopkins, and Myron Hopkins; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Delmar Brown and his wife Catherine; one sister, Amelia Tilghman; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Green, Idalee Smith, and Henrietta Brown; two brothers-in-law, James Green and Charles Smothers; a host of nieces, nephews and friends; and a very close friend, Russell Snowden.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall, Skipton.

Family and friends can call from 6-8 p.m. Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Easton.

Burial will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.
