MILFORD - Leah Beth "Rosebud" Downes passed away May 31, 2016, in Bayhealth's Milford Memorial Hospital. Leah graduated from Christian Tabernacle Academy in 2004, and from the Delaware Learning Institute of Cosmetology in 2006. She was employed by Ace Hardware in Milford for years and loved working there. Leah is survived by her parents, David and Cora (Rust) Downes, of Milford; her paternal grandparents, Roland and Nora Downes, of Milford; her maternal grandmother, Jeannie Rust, of Milford; her brother, Cody Downes, with his wife, Julie, and their son, Briar, also of Milford; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will miss her terribly. She was welcomed into heaven by her maternal grandparents, Harvey and Doris (Van Vorst) Rust, who resided locally for many years. Though small of stature, Leah possessed the largest of hearts and was known and loved throughout the community for her cheerful disposition, beautiful smile, chirpy-sweet voice, and generous, easy-going spirit. She was a proud small-town girlie girl who loved high heels and the color pink, had a very cool frog tattoo on her foot, and still observed Tuesday night "date nights" with her dad. Leah was a rescuer of animals and people alike, a trusted friend and confidant. She was uncomplaining, quick with praise and encouragement, open and sympathetic to all. A celebration of Leah's life will be held Friday, June 17, 2016, at Leah's home church, Calvary Wesleyan, 240 Delaware Avenue, Harrington, with visitation beginning at 5 p.m and service to follow at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Leah's parents suggest donations in Leah's memory to Attack Addiction, P.O. Box 36, Bear, DE, 19701 (attackaddiction.org). Arrangements handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford.
