MARYDEL - Kimberly Ann Gunter passed away at home with her husband Gene and dog Smoke by her side.
Kim was born October 13, 1967 in Chestertown, Md. to Rusty Whitearm and Blanche Duvall. She was one of five sisters: Rita, Rosalie, Carla, and Becky.
Kim; attended Caesar Rodney High School and graduated in 1986 with a certificate from Vo-tech in cosmetology. She went on to work as a hairdresser for the next four years at Antionette's in Dover, Del. She went on to further her career as a sales associate at Cook and Smith Florist for the next seven years. Lastly, Kim worked in the cafeteria of Casar Rodney before her and her husband Gene established their business in 1995, EFG Paving and Contracting. She then dedicated her time to running the business along side Gene until her passing. A few of Kim's most treasured years was her time spent at Immanuel AME Church. She dedicated three years to being a stewardess for the church, teaching Sunday school, and teaching vacation bible school.
Kim and her husband Gene were high school sweethearts at 15 and 16 years old, they were wed July 20, 1991. They spent 40 fulfilling years together, never a day apart. Kim had a love for all animals, especially horses, cats, and dogs. Over the years they rescued over 20 dogs and 14 cats together, at one time they had 14 dogs in the house. Kim made sure all of the animals were well taken care of and loved. It's been said by many, "I'd love to be one of your dogs in my next life!". Kim had a love and passion for camping. Her and her husband went on many camping trips together through the years. Two of her favorite trips were Yellowstone in 1995 and Waltons Mountain in 1996. They spent a lot of their time together camping at truck shows, truck pulls, and motorcycle events. She also enjoyed boating. In her last years they spent their winters camping in Florida, with her favorite spot being Beverley Beach Camptown. She most enjoyed watching the sunrises and walking her dog Smoke on the shoreline.
Kim loved many and was loved by many; she showed that most in making sure everyone was fed. She was known as the "lunch lady".
Kim leaves behind her loving husband, Gene Gunter; sisters, Carla O'Neal of Clayton, Rosalie Sarver (Stoney) of Townsend, and Rebecca Puglia (Vince) of Hawaii; niece, Dee Perone and family; mother-in-law, Helen Gunter. She also leaves behind extended family, Priscilla Webb, Joe Hill and daughter Brandi; Clint, Jenn, and Lil' Clint Hill; Jesse, Megan, Lily, and Lila Hill; Nathan, Carolina, Maci, and Maddi Hill; James, Kayla, Ava, and Allie Hill; Stephen, Lindsy, Naomi, and Mave Parsons; Marvin "Blinks" Dembey; Ben and Tracey Wilson and family; Bret "Tomahawk "Durham; Brady and Lex Butler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rusty and Blanche; sister, Rita Perone; and nephew, Paul Perone.
Services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, January 24, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt. 10) Dover. Friends may gather one hour prior.
There will be a reception at Hartly volunteer fire company at 3:30 p.m., everyone is welcome. There will be a convoy from Torbert to HVFC with bikes and trucks if anyone would like to join at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions in Kimberly's honor be donated to First State Animal Center and SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
